Literature Text

The trees are liquid gold and crimson
Like giant fires burning against the wintry grey sky,
Their falling leaves reminiscent
Of fleeing souls seeking salvation,
Running from the promise of night.

I feel the ground below me shift,
A hundred fallen leaves,
A hundred bitter, angry souls,
Protesting my walk down the lane,
And as I stop and listen,
They growl at me once again.

Occasionally, the chilling wind
Whispers its secrets to me,
While it sings a slow, sad song
In harmony with the bitter sky.
Silence now in the tranquil eve,
Lit by shining, tiny candles
Of red and green and white.

~Kaitlin Kime 2002
I wrote this for English class while taking a walk in the evening down my street. I thought it came out kinda cool, so I thought I would submit it.
